Blindness comes to DVD

Movies Online comes with the information that Blindness will be launching in DVD next February .

Although it got mixed reviews since this film was shot in my home town I for one will give it a shot! A mysterious epidemic sends a city reeling toward the edge of madness, while one woman tries to preserve a small pocket of humanity in the taut thriller Blindness, coming to DVD on February 10, 2009. Presented by Miramax Films and based on Nobel Laureate José Saramago’s masterful novel, this intense and gritty drama, called “powerful and provocative” by Stephen Schaefer of the Boston Herald, was nominated for the 2008 Palme d’Or, the top prize at the Cannes Film Festival.

Award winning actress Julianne Moore (Far from Heaven, The End of the Affair, Boogie Nights) heads up an extraordinary cast that also includes Mark Ruffalo (Zodiac), Danny Glover (Lonesome Dove, Mandela), Alice Braga (I Am Legend) and Gael García Bernal (Babel) in a paranoia fueled psychological thriller that will have audiences on the edge of their seats.

According to “The Canadian Press“, Ruffalo will be in Toronto, with Julianne Moore and Gael García Bernal, to promote Blindness.

The 10-day movie-lovers’ bash runs from Sept. 4 to 13.

Dark drama Blindness named Atlantic Film Fest opener

Blindness, the dark Canadian-Brazilian-Japanese drama based on Jose Saramago’s acclaimed novel, is set to open the 28th edition of the Atlantic Film Festival.

Organizers announced their selection on Friday from Halifax, where the 10-day festival will unspool beginning Sept. 11.

“Opening night will beautifully align our celebration of Canadian cinema with this incredible Brazilian co-production,” said festival director Lia Rinaldo.

Packed with Canadian and international stars, Blindness tells the story of a mysterious epidemic that afflicts an unnamed city, robbing citizens of their sight and quickly causing societal breakdown.

The cast includes U.S. actors Julianne Moore, Mark Ruffalo and Danny Glover, Mexico’s Gael Garcia Bernal, Brazil’s Alice Braga, Japan’s Yusuke Iseya and Canadians Sandra Oh, Maury Chaykin, Susan Coyne, Martha Burns and Don McKellar — who also adapted the screenplay from Saramago’s book.

The movie opened the Cannes International Film Festival in May and will also screen at the upcoming Toronto International Film Festival. Blindness is set for a limited North American theatrical release in September.

Fernando Meirelles’s apocalyptic thriller Blindness – a Canadian co-production with an all-star cast including Mark Ruffalo and Julianne Moore – will be a special presentation. The festival runs from Sept. 4 to 13.
